Pastor Carol Lillie
I was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and think of myself as a “desert rat”. I love the Southwest and consider Northern New Mexico, Colorado and the Four Corners region to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. I feel privileged to live and serve in this beautiful community! I attended the University of Northern Colorado as a “non-traditional” student. (That means I took 16 years out to raise our family, etc.). I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Women’s Studies. I was also the Women’s Studies outstanding student for 2000. I attended Iliff School of Theology and received a Masters of Divinity in 2000, being ordained a full elder in the Rocky Mountain Conference in 2005. Since that time I’ve served churches in Loveland, Ft. Collins, Greeley, Laramie, Longmont, Erie and now Glenwood Springs, Basalt, Carbondale and Thomasville!
Dave and I have three kids: Megan, Bryson, and Colin (in order!) Megan lives in central Texas with her husband (Aaron) and three sons. Bryson is a UM minister serving Rinn UMC in Frederick, CO. He is married (Sarah) and has a daughter. Colin lives in Greeley with his wife (Heather) and two kids – one of each. We also have three chihuahuas who aren’t the brightest crayons in the box, but we love them anyway.
In June 2010, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent bi-lateral mastectomy, and chemo-therapy. I recently celebrated EIGHT years cancer-free! If you, or a loved one are in treatment and need a listening ear, I am here.
Creativity is an essential part of my life. Ministry gives me the chance to use my creative ability to help people discover and express Christ’s presence in their lives. I love visiting with folks and hearing their life stories. Ministry is a job that constantly changes and I really thrive on its variety and challenge. Whether I’m teaching a class, preaching or facilitating a retreat or painting murals, I’m always learning something new and exciting. Faith is an adventure that is always fresh and new … I’d love to visit with you about your adventure and how Christ can become an even bigger part of it!
Pastor David Lillie
I’m Dave Lillie, and I serve Christ as pastor alongside my wife, Carol, who is also an ordained United Methodist minister. My faith journey started from a background that didn’t include church – until after I turned 30 years old. Becoming involved in a new church-start opened spiritual doors that I never knew existed and, at age 35, the entire Lillie family moved from Albuquerque to Denver so I could attend seminary.
My greatest enjoyment comes from sharing faith – through sermons, classes, and best of all, a personal visit over a cup of coffee. Despite many years “in church,” I still remember how scary it is to walk into a new church, so I take great pains to orient everything I do or say toward someone who is just beginning to check out Jesus Christ and his church.
If you’re looking for something more in life, I invite you to visit First UMC on any Sunday. A welcoming community of faith is waiting – where faith and reason are compatible, and Christ is ready to make life better than ever before!
